“Growth occurs when individuals confront problems, struggle to master them, and through that struggle develop new aspects of their skills, capacities, views about life.” – Carl Rogers

Person-Centred Psychotherapy Therapy
In this therapy, the therapist focuses entirely on understanding the client as an individual and from their perception of the world. It pays particular attention to conceptualising and engaging with clients in a deeply valuing way. It rejects traditional reduction of human experiences to nomothetic, universal laws and mechanism’s in favour of the individual’s felt sense and experience. It is within this environment the client can reconnect with and value their own true unique self and move away from reliance of external judgemental validation.
DBT – informed Therapy
Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT) is often used to specifically help those with Borderline Personality Disorder (BPD), characterised by impulsive behaviour, self-harm and difficulty in interpersonal relationships. The core skills taught in in DBT groups are:
- Emotion Regulation
- Interpersonal Effectiveness
- Distress Tolerance
However, these skills can be incorporated into one to one therapy sessions too, helping you to manage your emotions and your relationships if you feel you need a little structure or a place to start. DBT like PCT focuses on how you currently experience your emotions and what you want to change.
Nikki was professional and caring, taking time to understand me as an individual. Within the space of three weeks Nikki was able to help me identify why I was feeling the way I was. I didn’t think therapy could help me but it truly has.
